It’s said that the number of blogs on the 12 is between 10 to 32 million. Many of these are 13 blogs that people use to keep in touch with their friends. But some are public ones on superstars, sports and up-to-date 14 . Studies show that 30 percent of Americans have read a blog at 15 once. Even if people do not read blogs regularly, they might still be 16 by them in some way.

、阅读理解(40分)

A: 根据短文内容,从ABCD四个选项中选择一个最佳答案(20分)。

Passage A:

Do you know why different animals or insects have their special colors? Their colors seem to be used mainly to keep themselves safe.

Some birds like eating locusts, but birds can’t catch them easily. Why? It is because locusts change their colors together with the change of the colors of the crops. When crops are green, locusts look green. When crops are brown, locusts change to the same color. Some other insects with different colors from plants are easily found and eaten by ohters. So they have to appear only at night.

If you study animal life, you’ll find the main use of coloring is to keep themselves safe. Bears, lions and other animals move quietly through forests. They can’t be easily seen because they have the colors much like the trees.

Passage B:

Do you know the countryside is changing these years in some countries.

Life has become difficult in many villages, and some are becoming empty. There are a lot of reasons for this. Firstly, young people from villages usually want to live somewhere livelier, and they often move to the towns and do not return. Secondy, people move to the cities to find work, as there are very few jobs in the countryside. Sometimes villages remain because people from the cities have bought a “second home” in the villages, where they come and stay at weekends. The price of the houses goes up and people like to buy a house in the conutryside. Another problem is that it is becoming more and more difficult for farmers to make money from their farms. So they sell their land and find another job.

All these things mean that many villages are fighting to survive. We can only hope that they will remain. The countryside would be a sadder and uglier place without them.

passage D:

Most people around the world are right-handed. This also seems to be true in history. In 1799, scientists studied works of art made at different times from 1,500 B.C. to the 1950s. Most of the people shown in these works are right-handed, so the scientists guessed that right –handedness has always been common through history. Today, only about 10%to 15% of the world’s population is left-handed.

Why are there more right-handed people than left-handed ones? Scientists now know that a person’s two hands each have their own jobs. For most people, the left hand is used to find things or hold things. The right hand is used to work with things. This is because of the different work of the two sides of the brain. The right side of the brain, which makes a person’s hands and eyes work together, controls the left hand. The left side of the brain, which controls the right hand, is the center for thinking and doing problems. These findings show that more artists should be left-handed, and studies have found that left-handedness is twice as common among artists as among people in the other jobs.

No one really knows what makes a person become right-handed instead of left-handed. Scientists have found that almost 40% of the people become left-handed because their main brain is damaged when they are born. However, this doesn’t happen to everyone, so scientists guess there must be another reason why people become left-handed. One idea is that people usually get right-handed from their parents. If a person does not receive the gene (基因)for right –handedness, he/she may become either right-or left-handed according to the chance and the people they work or live with.

Though right-handedness is more common than left-handedness, people no longer think left-handed people are strange of unusual. A long time ago, left-handed children were made to use their right hand like other children, but today they don’t have to.

16. After studying works of art made at different times in history, the scientists found .

A. the art began from 1,500 B.C.

B. the works of art ended in 1950

C. most people shown in the works of art are right-handed

D. most people shown in the works of art are left-handed

17. How many people in the world are left-handed now? .

A. Less than one sixth B. More than a half

C. About 40% D. The passage doesn’t tell us

18. What is the left hand for most people used to do? It is .

A. used to find or hold things

B. used to work with things

C. used to make a person’s hands and eyes work together

D. used the center for thinking and doing problems

19. According to the passage, which of the following is not true? .

A. No one really knows what makes a person become right-handed

B. Left-handedness is cleverer than right-handedness

C. Today children are not made to use their right hands only

D. Scientists think there must be some reason why people become left-handed

Passage E

Since the very first time a Girl Scout(女童子军) rang the doorbell at Ciana Sparks’ house, she has known her destiny(命运).

Destiny is about what you were meant to do. But sometimes you get the opportunity to do what you dreamed of.

“The Girl Scouts would come up to our door to sell cookies. I always wanted to be one of them,” Sparks said. That was ten years ago. Since then, American Girl Scout Sparks, now 16, has been living her dream of selling cookies. She has sold a lot of them.

“I sold 1,209 boxes. The year before that, I sold 800 boxes,” Sparks said. She was one of 23 girls who sold more than 1,000 boxes. She has a simple way of selling the cookies.

“I usually start around my neighborhood. I call some of my relatives who live out of town. Then I go to my mom’s work. Then I do the booth sales.”

Sparks says a personal touch helps. She doesn’t just send the order sheet(订货单). She goes there and does the selling in person. And she always wears her Girl Scout uniform, or a cookie costume.

Dear John,

Nice to hear from you. I can understand you. But I don’t think you are right since all the parents in the world love their children. In fact, it’s a good idea to stop eating hamburgers and drinking Coke because they are bad for your health. You’d better eat more fruit and vegetables. You should drink water instead of Coke. I think you can also make a plan for keeping fit and ask your parents advice. They will agree with you if your plan is good enough. Don’t ask for money from your grandparents. If you don't give up the bad eating habits, you will feel even worse. I’m sure you can help yourself with the problem.
