1 rarely adv. 很少,几乎不。其意义相当于seldomscarcelyhardly。含有这种意义词汇的句子在变成翻译疑问句时,反疑问句部分应使用肯定形式。例如:

He seldom went to church when young, did he? 年轻的时候,他很少去做礼拜是吗?

2 more than此处表示超出,超过。例如:

more than还可用来表示不仅仅,不只是。例如:

He is more than my father; he’s also my friend. 他不仅仅是我的父亲,还是我的好朋友。

They were more than happy to hear from you. 收到你的来信,我非常高兴。

【用法归纳】

to tell (you) the truth“实话实说,说实话,为插入语,一般置于居首,用来引出后面要解释的内容。类似的表达还有:to be frank (坦率地说), to be honest (说实话), to make the things worse (更糟的是u), to begin with (首先)等。例如:

To begin with, I want of ask you a question about your career. 首先,我想问你一个关于你的职业的问题。

【词义辨析】

persuadeadvise的异同点persuade强调说服,劝说的结果; advise = try to persuade 表示劝说的动作,不强调结果。例如:

我说动我爸爸买了一台新电视。

How did you persuade him into accepting your ideas?

你是如何说服他接受你的观点的?
