Unit 1 Stay Healthy.

Lesson 3 Good Food, Good Health

1. Analysis of the Students

The students of Grade 9 have mastered certain vocabulariesexpressions and structures. They also have the abilities of self-teaching and working in groups. Most of them are willing to express their opinions in English.

2. Analysis of Teaching Content

Lesson 3 is the third lesson in Unit 1, Book 5.This unit focus on the subject staying healthy. Students cares about the subject because it is close to everyone. Lesson 3 mainly talks about good food, and the balanced diet. It also tells us an old saying: A balanced diet will give you lots of energy.

【知识目标】

(1) Master the words and expressions: grain, corn, vitamin, mineral, fiber, protein, bean, Asian, soy, calcium, bone, yogurt, contain, balanced, diet.

(2) Master the following phrases.

be made from, be different from, be full of, stay strong, a balanced diet.

Learn four food groups.

【情感目标】

Express the idea good food ,good health, If you want to be healthy, please eat a balanced diet.

Step 1. Warm-up

Free talk: T: 1. Do you like eating vegetables or meat?

What kind of meat or vegetables do you like best?

What food would you choose if you are hungry? Why?

Do you think you have a balanced diet?

2. Show some picture of food, and ask Ss:

What food would you choose if you are hungry? Why?

Do you think you have a balanced diet?

Step 2. Presentation

1. Show the new words (with their pictures).

2. Listen to the tape and answer the questions:

(1)How many food groups are there?

(2) What are the food groups?

(3) What is calcium?

(4) What is a balanced diet?

3. Explain the food groups

a. Foods from grain

b. Fruit and vegetables

c. Protein food

d. Calcium foods

4. Language points

1 Here are the four food groups:

Here are…是一个倒装句型,意为这些是……”

其中的be要根据be后的名词确定单复数,单数名词要用is;

复数名词要用are

Here is a card for you.这儿有你一张卡片。

Here are the problems they can’t solve.

这些是他们不能解决的问题。

2 Breakfast cereal is also made of different grains.

早餐麦片也是由不同的谷物制成的。

be made of…意思是……制成,通过成品可以看出原材料。

These tables are all made of wood. 这些桌子都是木头做的。

类似的短语还有:

be made from “由……制成,通过成品不能看出原材料。

be made in “在某地制造

be made by somebody “由某人制造

be made into “把……制成,指把原料制成成品。

3Fruits and vegetables are also rich in vitamins , minerals and fibre.

be rich in表示……方面很富有 充裕

Vegetables are rich in vitamins.

蔬菜富含维生素。

4They help you grow and stay healthy.

stay healthy , keep healthy , keep in good health都表示保持健康stay healthy侧重某人一直处在一种健康的状态;keep healthy侧重在主观意愿上保持健康,特别是通过某种方式,如锻炼、运动、饮食等方面来保持健康。

5Your body needs calcium to stay healthy.

to stay healthy在这里是动词不定式短语作目的状语。动词不定式短语作目的状语时,既可以放在句首,也可以放在句末,翻译时常译为为了……”

  6milk, cheese and yogurt contain calcium.

contain为及物动词,意为包含,含有,不用于进行时。可表示包含事物的全部或部分,强调整体中含有……,某物体中含有……,容器中有……”,是指包含的内容。

7A well-balanced diet includes foods from each food group.

本句也可以写成A well-balanced diet contains/has foods from each food group.

Step 3. Practice

1. Listen and follow

2. Read the text with your partner.

3. Read and choose the food words.

4. Match each word with its definition. Then complete the passage using the four words.

T: Let’s do a small exercise. Match the words with its definition.

T: Who can put the four words into the right blanks.

It’s important for us to keep a balanced _____. To do this, we must eat many different kinds of foods. Bread, noodles, _____and rice are all grains. Grain foods give us vitamins, minerals and fibre. Fish, meat and ______ are full of protein. Calcium, which can be found in cheese, milk and _______, is good for our bones and teeth.

Step 4. Consolidation

1. What do you often eat at every meal? Do a survey and compare your eating habits with those of your classmates.

T: So much for the text. Now ask your partner What do you often eat for breakfast, for lunch, and for supper? Compare your eating habits with hers or his, See who should make a change.

Model: My friend Denny has bread and milk for breakfast. He always has donuts for lunch and supper. I’m much more different. I have bread, eggs, a banana and milk for breakfast. I have rice and vegetables for lunch and noodles or cereal and vegetables for supper. I think Danny should change his eating habits. He should eat more fruits and vegetables. He should eat more protein foods like meat, fish and eggs.

Step 5. Extension

1. Enjoy a video about food.

2. Get the sentence: Your diet is all the things that you eat. To have a balanced diet, you need to eat some food from each food group. A balanced diet will give you lots of energy.

Step 6. Homework

1. Write a composition: How to keep healthy. (About 80 words)

2. Finish the exercises in the activity book.
