A:Good morning. I'm Lydia Shen, the manager of the company. What's your name please?

B:How do you do, Miss Shen. My name is Penny Zhao. And I'm coming for your advertisement for a trainee salesperson.

A:How do you do, Penny? Well, for this job, we need people to work hard. Do you think you're suitable for this kind of job?

A:你好,Penny。

A:好吧。

Background:

Words & Expressions:

full-time: 全职

General Manager:

Let me introduce myself. / Let me do some introduction.

Which aspect do you want to know about me?

或者 What do you want to know about myself?

I: Where is your birthplace?

C: I was born in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

I: Where is your native place?

C: My native place is Tianjin.

I: Are you a resident of Beijing now?

C: Yes. I have been living in Beijing since my childhood.

I: Where is your domicile place?

C: My domicile place is Taiyuan.

I: What is your nationality?

C: I'm Chinese.

I: What is your nation?

C: My nation is the Han.

I: How large is your family?

C: There are four of us including my parents, a younger sister and me.

I: Do you spend much time talking with your family?

C: Yes. It's said there's a generation gap in the world today, but I don't think this is the case at our house. We all work at taking time to talk with each other. Especially at mealtime, we all eat and talk together. Meals are very lively at our house.

I: Your application form said that you have a younger sister. How do you get along with each other?

C: We get along well with each other. She is 6 years younger than me, and she is right now studying for college entrance exams. She asks me a lot for advice on how to study and things like that. Besides, we do many things together, such as going swimming, mountain climbing and soon.

a teacher in charge of a class: 班主任

postgraduates: 研究生

undergraduate: 本科生

college / university students: 大学生

students of arts: 文科学生

students of science: 理科学生

family: 家庭; relative: 亲戚;

Background:

Why did you leave your last job?(你为什么要辞去以前的工作),如果按照诚实原则,应当回答:我跟经理合不来,他快把我逼疯啦,我必须离开(请看下面)。

My manager and I could not get along. He was driving me crazy and I needed to leave.

It was a small company, not what I wanted in terms of my future.

Why haven't you found a job by now?(为什么你直到现在还没有找到工作),如果按照诚实原则,应当回答:现在找工作太难啦,我看上人家,人家却看不上我。

I was unhappy in my career and took time out to take some classes and read some books, and now I know where I'm going.

I have been very selective in looking for the right job and I don't want to settle for one in which I will find myself unchallenged.

What kind of salary are you seeking?(你想要多少薪水),如果按照诚实原则,应当回答:我想要5000大洋(这种回答是面试的大忌),而按照恭维原则,应当回答:

ALEX: Judging by the stories you gave us, I’d say your writing is very good.Have you written things other than newspaper stories?

  MORGAN: Thank you, Mr. Jones.

1、"Why should I hire you?"

This is the classic question most of us hear during an interview. It’s often preceded by the phrase, "I’ve already interviewed another person for this position who looks perfect." Then comes the killer question, "Why should I hire YOU?"

Be careful to avoid clever retorts or comedic one-liners here. Your interview is serious business and a wrong answer will send you packing. This is, in fact, the one question that interviewers like to ask because the answer can so easily separate the contenders from the also-rans. Give a wrong answer and the large "Game Over" sign flashes above your head.

  The ’Story’ Approach

What they really want to know is, "How are you different than all the other candidates who have applied for this position?" With this in mind, a good way to approach your answer here is to launch into your best "story" that answers this question, "Will you go the extra mile?"

Why is the employer asking why they should hire you? Because there are only five areas of interest that they have about you as a candidate:

  * Your skills

  * Your knowledge about the company

  * Your manageability

  * Your affordability

  * Whether you can go above and beyond your job description

In this day of "lean and mean" operations philosophy, employers are looking for employees who can think bigger and perform duties above and beyond their jobs.

2、"Why should I hire you?"

This is the classic question most of us hear during an interview. It’s often preceded by the phrase, "I’ve already interviewed another person for this position who looks perfect." Then comes the killer question, "Why should I hire YOU?"

  Demonstrate Your Accomplishments

Realize that there will always be competing candidates with a higher skill level, more experience, more education/training, or even a smoother interviewing style. The one equalizer though, is the ability to demonstrate how you have risen above and gone that extra mile to accomplish an important task, complete the job or realize an important goal.

Here, you recant that story of exactly how you worked 60-hour weeks, acquired new skills, or whatever it took to distinguish yourself and meet the challenge head on to successfully make the sale, save the project or rescue a client. If you can monetize (put a dollar value on) the end result, your story will only be that much more dramatic.

3、"Why should I hire you?"

This is the classic question most of us hear during an interview. It’s often preceded by the phrase, "I’ve already interviewed another person for this position who looks perfect." Then comes the killer question, "Why should I hire YOU?"

  Tell It Often

Knowing this ahead of time, it’s wise to put in the time beforehand to work on your answer to this question. Pick your best example of how you went above and beyond in your job. Work on your story to perfect it. Set the scene, describe the challenge and describe your role and the successful conclusion. Use this as an example of how you use your particular set of skills in an extraordinary time to "give it your all" and produce a clear benefit to your employer.

Since no other candidate can duplicate your own personal story here, you’ll make a memorable impression. Not only that, but quite possibly you’ll pull yourself ahead of that "perfect" candidate who preceded you.

  1. Candidate answered cell phone and asked the interviewer to leave her own office because it was a "private" conversation.

  2. Applicant told the interviewer he wouldn’t be able to stay with the job long because he thought he might get an inheritance if his uncle died - and his uncle wasn’t "looking too good."

  3. The job seeker asked the interviewer for a ride home after the interview.

  4. The applicant smelled his armpits on the way to the interview room.

  5. Candidate said she could not provide a writing sample because all of her writing had been for the CIA and it was "classified."

  6. Candidate told the interviewer he was fired for beating up his last boss.

  7. When the applicant was offered food before the interview, he declined saying he didn’t want to line his stomach with grease before going out drinking.

  8. An applicant said she was a "people person" not a "numbers person" -- in her interview for an accounting position.

  9. During a phone interview the candidate flushed the toilet while talking to hiring manager.

  10. The applicant took out a hair brush and brushed her hair.
