Self-introduction

Morning/afternoon, professors! It's my pleasure to have this opportunity for an interview and I hope I can make a good performance today.

Well, first, I’d like to briefly introduce my self, my name is XXX, I was born in XXXX and I live in XX, a beautiful city of XX province. I have studied XX for four years in XXXX and got the bachelor’s degree in XXXX, and now I am trying my best to obtain a key to XXXX.

During the four years in my university, I have been studying hard and I was granted scholarship every year. After my graduation, I am strongly convinced that what I have learned is far from what is demanded in such a competitive society, so I am determined to further my education with a master’s degree, I sincerely wish I could be a member of this great university, if so, I will spare no effort to be a qualified graduate student.

Questions:

1 Would you please say something about your university?

Well, I graduated from XXXX University, which has a long history of XX years, it developed into a comprehensive university with efforts of generations. Looking back on the years I have spent there, I really thankful to her for enriching my knowledge and widening my view.

2 What’s your hobby and interests? /What do you do in your spare time?

Well, in my spare time, I like basketball, tennis and Chinese chess, all these activities enrich my extracurricular life very much.

(About English) I like English very much, and I have passed CET_6 the year before last, but I do think there is still a long way to go, so I won’t give up my English study and I will keep improving my oral and listening ability.

3 Can you introduce your family to us?

There are four members in my family: my parents, my big brother and me. Both of my parents are peasant-workers, they work in XXX. So ordinary my family is, it makes me feel warm and tender. During my preparation for coming here, my parents’ love and support have always been my powers. I hope I will be able to repay them in the future.

4 What kind of personality do you think you have? (Personality & character)

Generally speaking, I am an independent person with a sense of responsibility. I like challenges in my life, and I will overcome all the difficulties in my study in future, besides, I approach things very enthusiastically, I think, and I do not like to leave things half-done. I am very cooperative and have good team-work spirit.

5 Why do you want to further your study instead of applying for a job?

There are several reasons accounting for my choice, first, I am longing for doing some research in (Control Science and Engineering) throughout my life, which is a strong trait of this great university. I suppose this is the most important factor in my decision. Secondly, I have a strong desire to learn more so as to enlarge my scope of knowledge, to realize my potential and to pay for my life. Last but not least, getting a further education will make a good theoretical basis for future development.

6 Could depict your general plans for the postgraduate study?

I hope I can form a systematic view for XXX (major)—I am interested in it when I was at school. I believe if I can pursue my study here, I will have more access to the up-to-date information in the field, and I am sure there is more chances here to put what I have learned from books into practice. In a word, I am looking forward to make a solid foundation for my future profession after three years studying here.

7 What do you expect to achieve if you are enrolled into this university?

If I could be lucky enough to get the chance to learn Control Science and Engineering (major) here, I will concentrate on the study and research in this field. First, I will work hard to learn the theoretical knowledge, constructing a solid basis for my future profession. On top of that, I would like to do some practical work with the help of my supervisor and classmates, and through this, I can get something that cannot be acquired from textbooks. I believe after three years of learning, my dream of being a competent engineer will finally come true.

8 Why do you choose study in our university?

I love atmosphere of the university, it’s full of youthful spirit, and I am deeply attracted by the scholarly atmosphere. Most significantly, it’s my great honor to enjoy your teaching.

9 What do you think of Shanghai (one place)?

Uh, Shanghai, as far as I know, is extremely beautiful and famous city, has a rich collection of buildings and structures of various architectural styles. But what impresses me most is that Shanghai is full of magic power—developing rapidly. It has long been known as the pearl of orient, all the people around the world call it “magic city”

10 where are you from? / can you introduce your hometown?

I am from Lishui, a beautiful city with a long history over 4000 years, which lies in the southwestern part of Zhejiang province, it embosomed in hills and has a beautiful scenery, I do hope all of you could pay a visit to my hometown, so that I could show you around, and I assure you that you will enjoy your visiting there just as I did here.

11 Is English important to the study of your major?

English is surely important to the study of my major, you see, my major is Control Science and Engineering, so I need to read a lot on the subject and many good books and periodicals on this subject are in English, so it's very important for me to be able to read English effectively.
