Everyone looks forward to progress, whether in one’s personal life or in the general society. Progress indicates a person’s ability to change the way he is living at the moment. Progress must lead a better way of doing things. All these, however, remain true only in so far as people want to accept technology and move forward by finding new and more efficient ways of doing things.
However, at the back of the minds of many people, especially those who missed the “good old days”, efficiency comes with a price. When communication becomes efficient, people are able to contact one another no matter where they are and at whatever time they wish to. The click of a button allows people miles apart to talk or to see each other without even leaving their homes. With the communication gadgets, such as mobile phones and ipads, people often do not take the effect to visit one another personally. A personal visit carries with it the additional feature of having to be in the person’s presence for as long as the visit lasts. We cannot unnecessarily excuse ourselves or turn the other person off.
With efficiency also comes mass production. Such is the nature of factories and the success of industrialization today. Factories have improved efficiency. Unskillful tasks are left to machines and products are better made and produced with greater accuracy than any human hand could ever have done. However, with the improvements in efficiency also comes the loss of the personal touch when making these products. For example, many handcrafts(手工艺品) are now produced in a factory. Although this means that supply is better able to increase demand, now that the supply is quick and efficient, the demand might fall because mass production lowers the quality of the handicraft and it is difficult to find unique designs on each item.
Nevertheless, we must not commit the mistake of analyzing progress only from one point of view. In fact, progress has allowed tradition to keep up. It is only with progress and the invention of new technology that many old products can be brought back to their old state. New technology is required for old products to stay old.
It is people’s attitude towards progress that causes the type of influence that technology has on society. Technology is flexible. There is no fixed way of making use of it. Everything depends on people’s attitude. The worst effects of progress will fall on those who are unable to think again about their attitudes and views of society. When we accept progress and adapt it to suit our needs, a new “past” is created.
63. According to Paragraph 1, progress can benefit people when they are willing to _______.
A. live a better life B. look for better methods
C. change ways of living D. accept technology and advance steadily
64. The author explains “efficiency comes with a price” by _______.
A. describing a process B. using examples
C. following time order D. making classification
65. Compared with home-made handicrafts, machine made products _______.
A. lack great accuracy B. lack the personal touch
C. are of high value D. are quite welcome
66. What can be concluded from the last paragraph?
A. Progress can suit the needs of daily life.
B. People review the past with great regret.
C. Technology should be introduced in a fixed way.
D. People’s attitude decides the use of technology.

Parents all struggle to get children to understand that money doesn’t grow on trees, wanting them to be responsible, work hard and learn to save a few bucks. But these lessons are among the most difficult to teach.
Enter KidZania, an internationally praised and truly unique children’s theme park, which makes life a little easier for parents.
KidZania is not a traditional theme park in almost any sense of the word---there are no roller coasters or merry-go-rounds in sight. There are, however, plenty of attractions and activities that will keep children busy, active, engaged and excited all day.
What makes it so much fun is that it’s a kid-sized city---complete with restaurants, banks, grocery stores and hospitals---where the kids get to be adults, doing the things most of us do on any normal day.
They start by picking one of nearly 100 “careers” and learning about it. Then, they put on their uniform and are ready to work and earn KidZania dollars(Kidzos)
Most activities are universal but some are localized to reflect the distinct flavors and personality of the country and region where the park is located and to keep it real for the kids.
Kids get paid for every job they do, which helps them explore the mysteries of managing money. Kidzos in hand, they can spend it or save it. If they run short of money, they will have to find a way to earn some.
Each KidZania city is planned in amazing detail, even including real world brands that help sponsor the city and keep it running. I was a little wary of all the popular corporate logos, but the brands weren’t pushed at all. They are there to reinforce the “real city” feelings by mixing it with things kids recognize.
KidZania employs senior citizens who give the park as homey feel and help put children at ease. Management also employs the disabled, whether blind, deaf or wheelchair-bound. Besides making for a more realistic city, this teaches children about those with different abilities and gives them an opportunity to spend time with people they might otherwise have stared at or treated less than kindly.
Socialization is an important part of KidZania, just as it is throughout childhood. The KidZania experience empowers kids, giving them the confidence to be their best selves, and the inspiration to be great global citizens. And it’s part of what makes KidZania such an amazing place for families and children.
67.KidZania is unique in that ________.
A. it has no entertainment facilities
B. it includes lots of localized activities
C. it offers kids chances to learn through working
D. it employs many seniors and disabled people
68. The underlined word “wary” in paragraph 8 is similar in meaning to _____.
A. astonished B. cautious C. delighted D. conscious
69. Children’s theme park KidZania is set up to ______.
A. prepare them to be good citizens in the future
B. provide them with a place to have a good time
C. make them aware of their parents’ hardship
D. assist them in building a good relationship with parents
70. Which of the following might be the best title of the passage?
A. Children do part-time jobs at a theme park
B. A theme park pushes kids to be grown-ups
C. KidZania theme park makes adults’ life easier
D. Kids get to “be” adults at KidZania theme park

What Colleges Will Be Like in 2023
Imagine a university without textbooks and classes without calendars, but still costs a lot of money.
In 2023 colleges might not look different from the outside, but the learning experience students receive will probably be different from the one they get today.
Here are four areas where you can expect to see major changes and one area where you probably won't:
The Classroom
In the near future, professors will run their courses over digital platforms where data on each student's progress can be collected. These platforms were initially developed for massive open on line courses, or MOOCs. However, universities are now folding these platforms back into their traditional classes because they make it easier to share content, host discussions and keep track of student work. A professor might still "teach" a class, but most of the interaction will happen online. If professors and students do meet in a physical classroom, they will review materials, work through problems.
The Calendar
As more classes move partially or entirely online, the requirements of having a uniform start and end date diminish (缩小) . Having all the class material on line also means some students could sail through a semester's worth of classes in a few weeks and then start again with new courses. Some might finish a bachelor's degree in two years. Those who stick around for four years might have three majors.
The Institution
More universities are making their courses available through on line platforms such as Coursera and edX, and great lectures can be found on You Tube. Students are supplementing (补充) their own school's classes with online lectures from rock-star professors at other institutions.
More and more, this type of learning will become part of college life. "Students will be able to acquire knowledge globally, across different campuses," says Ron Kraemer, chief information and digital officer at the University of Not re Dame.
Schools, meanwhile, will take advantage of this setup to conserve their resources. They might develop courses of their own only when they think they can provide a big advantage over other schools' offerings. Otherwise, they might simply adopt a world-beating course that was developed elsewhere, and then put their own stamp on it by designing assignments, discussions and student-faculty interactions. Already, for example, students at several California State University campuses such as San Jose and Sacramento are taking engineering classes that were developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The Textbook
These 10-pound hardcover volumes used to have Psychology 101 or the “Rocks for Jocks” geology class. But this giant bundle, and the profitable publishing industry that produced it, will quickly unravel (瓦解) as professors pick and choose the sections they like best and assemble their own course packs.
The books themselves will stop to be physical volumes and instead will be sources of interactive digital content that include text, videos and simulations (模拟) . In some cases, the material that used to be in a textbook will simply be integrated into the online course platform, where students can watch a lecture, read an essay and do a homework assignment.

Dear Editor, I am a Senior Three student. Recently we have carried out a survey—―To whom do you go when in trouble? The main findings are as follows.
61% of the students surveyed select friends or schoolmates as their ideal listeners when they have trouble, the reason of which is that they are in the same age group and have a better understanding of each other. Another 22% choose teachers and parents to talk to. They suggest that teachers and parents are rich in life and educational experiences. Nevertheless, there are also 17% who don’t share their troubles at all. They say that their troubles are none of others’ business. Others find it hard to get along with others.
It is not easy to reach definite conclusions based on such a small example. However, some general comments can be made. It seems clear from the response that some students lack communication with others and teachers and parents need to play a more important role in their lives. In my opinion, when in trouble the students had better ask our teachers, parents, friends or classmates for help, which is greatly helpful to solve the problems.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

M: Uh, do you have anything earlier?
W: No, I’m sorry.
M: Well, in that case, tomorrow would be fine.

W: I’ve got no idea. I only know that foreigners are beginning to take an interest in it, besides their old card games.
M: That’s right. Some of them are already experts.
W: Indeed they are. But the trouble about Mahjong is once you’re interested in it, you can’t shed it off.

M: Really? What’s wrong this time?
W: I don’t know exactly. Something’s wrong with the brakes, I think.
M: Well, at least that shouldn’t cost you much to fix. Parts are cheaper for all the American cars like yours. Did the mechanic say how much it would cost?
W: He said he would call me later today about the cost.
M: Watch out he doesn’t try to take advantage of you.
W: What do you mean?
M: Well, some car mechanics, if they think that someone doesn’t know much about cars, they might try to overcharge that person.

M: Oh, that’s good to know. Maybe I’ll try using him in the future. By the way, do you need a ride home after class today?

W: Mary, I usually miss very important dates and feel confused. Have you ever forgotten an appointment at the doctor’s or been late in getting to your part-time job?
W: Occasionally, but I’d like to show you my tips. Sure that these difficulties happen to everybody. However, you can avoid such problems if you write out schedules. They will help you to find out how much time you have to do the things that are important as well as those that are fun. A master schedule can be used to find out how much time you really have for activities. This schedule lists all of the activities that must complete. A weekly schedule can also be used to help you plan time for the things that you really like to do. Your weekly schedule should include time for activities. It also should include activities that will help you to achieve lifetime, long-term and short-term goals. Finally, it should include your study time and free time. Free time is necessary so that you can make needed changes in your schedule. A daily schedule is a final suggestion to help you plan your time.
