这些形容词用于形容没有经过预先考虑，准备或缺乏警惕的行动或人。Impetuous和impulsive在适用于人和行动的时候与其它的词不同。Impetuous所指的行动比impulsive所指的更加坚定或有力，经常表示因为其所导致的不幸后果。Impulsive表示冲动的行为，而且由于impulses的意思可好可坏，因此它不一定是贬义的。它甚至可以被认为是讨人喜欢或有吸引力的。另一方面，impetuosity表示一种像小孩子般的幼稚，不能够保持耐心或在采取行动前进行充分的思考。【Herswasagenerous,impulsivenature,capableofspontaneousaffectionandwarmth;animpetuousdecisionhesoonwouldregret;tostamphisfootinanimpetuousrage.】Impulsive并不一定总是表示不顾一切，有时它可以只表示下意识的行动以及缺乏预谋：animpulsiveurgetoreopenthedoorandchecktoseewhetherallthewindowswereclosedbeforesheleftthehome.Headlong表示不顾一切，不计后果和火急火燎的行动。与这里其它的形容词不同的是，它可以当作形容词，也可以是副词来使用。当作为形容词时，它会更加正式一点：aheadloneadvanceintoenemyterritory;peoplerushingheadlongintothestoreatthestartofthesale;toplungeheadlongintoabusinesswithoutadequatefinancialbacking.既然Headlong指完全缺乏深思熟虑，那么precipitate就表示对于即将发生的行动考虑得不足。【Theeditorialcalledtheunion'srejectionofthewageofferprecipitateandunwarranted.】Sudden这里的考虑是表示一种突然或意外的行为，但并不一定表示匆忙。它可以指一种下意识的，事先未考虑的行动或未经过准备的看法或见解。【Thecrowdmadeasuddenrushforthedoorwhensomeoneshouted,"Fire!";Hissuddendeparturefromthepublishedtextofthespeechcaughtusbysurprise;Thesuddenstopofthebusthrewseveralpeopletothefloor.】
